6. Girls Like Mystery // Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever
The second track from the opening trifecta of Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever, ‘Girls Like Mystery’ is a gloriously catchy and storming number, with hedonistic, pulsating guitar riffs and rumbling lyrics. Set up in classic Cribs fashion of Jarman twins alternating singing every other line of the verse, the song is framed around the token illusion of a guy getting “friendzoned” by various girls. The frustrations of the narrator and his confusions about this one girl cause him to erupt, and are crammed into the juicy, angsty, infectious chorus: “They say, love me til the end/ they only see me as a friend.” Women, huh? Mysteries indeed. “Leave me alone, I’m just your enemy / I’ve seen it all, I’ve seen your jealousy…”
