Throwback Thursday: Firestarter // The Prodigy

It is a song that is reminiscent of the 90s. The Prodigy’s ‘Firestarter’, released in 1996, was filled with just the right amount of catchy and controversial lyrics, so that just by listening to the song you felt like transforming yourself into a punk and throwing yourself into a pit of dirty needles (or maybe not).

The song is instantly recognisable from the intro, providing a generation of ravers with a tune to go crazy to. Vocalist, Keith Flint is the fire starter (to go with his surname, of course) and the lyrics in the song are descriptive of himself, he is the ‘self-inflicted’ ‘twisted firestarter’. With the music video banned from being shown on television until after watershed, The Prodigy proved their success by reaching number one in the UK charts with this song, and it’s this very tune that really kicked off their career.
