A stage musical version of the cult classic film The Lost Boys is being developed, and is planned for a Broadway debut in 2022.
In an interview with Syfy, English musician G Tom Mac announced that he is heading up a stage adaptation of Joel Schumacher’s 1987 film, with the project currently titled A Lost Boy’s Story.
The stage show will fill in the back story of the character David, played in the film by Kiefer Sutherland. As part of the show’s early promotion, all the music has been released on Spotify.
Initially planned for next year, Mac now says that the musical will now debut in 2022, due to Broadway closing down because of the Coronavirus outbreak. Broadway is expected to reopen next Winter or Spring.
Casting is already underway, with the likes of JD McCrary and Malcolm McDowell currently in talks to take on roles. Mac also revealed that the stage show received input from Schumacher prior to his death last month.
A classic film of the 1980s, The Lost Boys is also being adapted into a limited TV series by the CW, which Mac is also involved in. Production is currently on hold amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
