October’s gaming releases include some of the most highly anticipated of the year. Tales of the supernatural, exhilarating combat, dark tales from the pages of comic lore, immersive warfare and the return of a beloved character await players this month.
Overwatch 2
A new era begins with this new adventure in the world of Overwatch. For Overwatch 2, players will be put right into the middle of the action with a variety of game modes and a roster of old favourites and new additions. Those looking for classic team-based battles will be able to put their skills to the test in competitive matches, while those looking to hone their skills will be able to try out the new maps and roster members in Practise mode. Those new to the Overwatch experience will join the First Time User Experience, which will ease new players into the working of the game with a limited selection of game modes and heroes before unlocking the whole experience.
Players who already own a copy of Overwatch will be able to redeem a Founder’s Pack, which includes two epic skins, a Founder’s icon, instant access to the characters Junker Queen, Sojourn & Kiriko and bonus loot. The Watchpoint Pack includes 7 Legendary skins, 5 Epic skins, 2000 Overwatch coins, Overwatch 2 player Icon and the Season One Battle Pass, which will unlock over 80 tiers of rewards for the game’s first season of content.
Overwatch 2 will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC from October 4*
A Plague Tale: Requiem
Venture into the unknown for this next chapter in the world of A Plague Tale. Set six months after the events of A Plague Tale: Innocence, A Plague Tale: Requiem continues the story of Amicia and Hugo de Rune. With Hugo afflicted with a blood disease that grants him supernatural powers, it is up to Amicia to find a cure to save her brother’s life. Hearing tales of a prophesied island which may hold the key to saving Hugo, the siblings decide to travel south and away from their homeland. On their travels, players must help Amicia and Hugo to control his powers to make sure he isn’t overwhelmed by them or by the guilt of the choices they must make on their journey.
Players who pre-order will unlock the Protector Pack, which features additional cosmetic items for Amicia, bonus crafting materials and the Red Damsel crossbow skin. The Collector’s Edition includes a copy of the game (digital on PC and physical copy on console), three lithographs, a copy of the OST on vinyl, a Hugo’s Feather brooch and a 21cm Amicia & Hugo resin statuette.
A Plague Tale: Requiem will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC from October 18*
Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope
The fate of the universe is in your hands in this crossover caper. In Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, players will travel across worlds to fight back against an evil force. Consumed by her desire to feed from the energy of sparks – the Luma/Rabbid hybrids who inhabit various worlds – the evil entity Cursa has sent forth her forces in the Darkmess to retrieve these creatures and bring them to her. With multiple worlds under siege, it will be up to Mario, the Rabbids and their allies (which include a familiar foe) to battle the Darkmess and free the Sparks.
Players who pre-order will receive the Megabug Collection with 9 bonus weapon skins The Gold Edition includes a copy of the game, access to the Season Pass and the Galactic Prestige Collection with bonus items and weapon skins.
Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope will be available on Nintendo Switch from October 20*
Gotham Knights
Gotham is under threat in this action RPG. Following the deaths of both Bruce Wayne/Batman and Commissioner Gordon, Gotham City has become a haven for criminals and villains. In Gotham Knights, players will play as four of Batman’s former protégés – Dick Grayson (Nightwing), Barbara Gordon (Batgirl), Tim Drake (Robin) and Jason Todd (Red Hood) – as they try and restore order to Gotham and continue the work started by the late Caped Crusader. Standing in their way, however, is a host of super-villains including Harley Quinn, Clayface, Penguin and the mysterious Court of Owls, who oversee all of the city’s misdeeds.
Players who pre-order will receive the 233 Kustom skin for the Batcycle. The Deluxe Edition includes a copy of the game and the Visionary Pack – which includes an exclusive Knightwatch by Jim Lee transmog, Beyond Suitstyle, extra salvage to craft new gear, Boosted gear, an exclusive emote and three exclusive suit colorways. The Collector’s Edition includes a copy of the game, all the content in the Deluxe Edition, additional Promethium New Guard transmogs, an Augmented Reality Talon key, a Gotham City: City of Bridges collectible map and an exclusive Gotham Knights New Guard statue inspired by Jim Lee with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Bayonetta 3
The witch is back for this third instalment in the much-loved franchise. For Bayonetta 3, players will be taken on a new adventure across countries as they do battle with the Homunculi, a force of invading manmade bioweapons. Using her signature hack and slash combat with powerful magic, players will have to discover the truth about the origin of these creatures and how they are connected to an entity known only as the Singularity. Bayonetta won’t be alone in this quest however as she will be joined not only by allies old and new, including witch-in-training Viola, but alternate versions of herself – each with their own devilish mix of powers to bring to the fight.
The Trinity Masquerade Edition includes a copy of the game, a 200-page Artbook and three exclusive title sheets featuring art from each game in the Bayonetta series.
Bayonetta 3 will be available on Nintendo Switch from October 28*
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Team up or go it alone in the latest from Call of Duty. For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, players will be able to discover what exactly makes Task Force 141 the legendary team it is. Fighting alongside returning characters Captain John Price, Captain John “Soap” McTavish, Sgt Kyle “Gaz” Garrick and Lt Simon “Ghost” Riley”, players will be put in the middle of the most immersive Call of Duty title yet as they travel across the globe to complete their missions. Away from the campaign mode, players will be able to squad up with friends in multiplayer, which features new locales and ways to play – including a new Special Ops tactical co-op mode.
Players who pre-order will be able to play the campaign a week early, with an exclusive SteelBook available via select retailers. A Cross-Gen bundle option will be available for those on console and will include both current and next-gen versions of the game in the same console family. The Vault Edition includes a copy of the game (cross-gen available on console), a Ghost Legacy Pack, Red Team 141 Operator pack, FJX Cinder Weapon Vault and the Battle Pass, which will unlock up to 55 tier skips allowing for more bonus content to be made available.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 and PC from October 28*
Free to Play
On Xbox, those with a Gold or Game Pass Ultimate subscription will receive two games to download and keep for free this month alongside the titles available on Xbox Game Pass. Windbound will be available from October 1-31*, with Bomber Crew: Deluxe Edition available from October 16 – November 15*
Over on PlayStation, those with an active Plus subscription on any tier will have three games to add to their game library for free this month. From October 4*, Hot Wheels Unleashed will be available on both PS4 and PS5, with Injustice 2 and Superhot both available on PS4.
For those with connected Amazon and Twitch accounts, there are seven free games available to download and keep for free on Prime Gaming. From October 1*, the following games will be available:
