The BRIT Awards, presented by comedian Mo Gilligan, started on a heavy-metal note. Ed Sheeran and Bring Me the Horizon performed ‘Bad Habits’.

In total 13 genderless awards were presented during the course of the night.

“There is no gender to the awards this year. Everyone thought that was great apart from the male artists who realised they were up against Adele. Thanks for coming lads you smell great with the Paco Rabanne,” said Mo.

His comments were met by a straight-faced Dave and followed by Adele’s first win of the night. She was awarded song of the year for ‘Easy On Me’.

Adele received three awards in total. Accompanying song of the year was artist of the year, and album of the year for ‘30’ released last November.

She dedicated one of her awards to her son and his dad and expressed how proud of herself she was for “sticking to [her] guns and putting out an album that was about something so personal”.

Little Simz won best new artist, her first ever BRIT Award. The moment was a heart-warming one in which she shared the spotlight with her mother who joined her on stage to receive the award. Little Simz used the opportunity to encourage the next generation dreaming of such success.

She said: I am living proof that if you work hard…you can do something extraordinary. So this is for all the kids dreaming, keep dreaming, keep pushing, I am you, you are me”.

Both Adele and Dave commended Little Simz for her work and how far she has come.

Little Simz wasn’t the only one to receive her first BRIT, Wolf Alice conquered the group category.

Other wins included: Ed Sheeran, songwriter of the year, Dave, Hip Hop/Grime/Rap act, Billie Eilish, international artist of the year, Dua Lipa Pop/R&B act and Becky Hill, dance act, to name a few.

There were a number of live performances from Dave, Little Simz, Doja Cat, Adele and more. The coupled with the awards nicely.

Most performances went well. However there was a notable slip and fall down the stairs that descended from Anne-Marie’s red love-heart stage mechanism as she sang ‘Kiss My (Uh Oh)’.

Overall, the BRITs Awards 2022 were a success. Idris Elba describing the atmosphere as “amazing” and the room as “buzzing”.
