The True Cost (2015)

There have now been a few documentaries exposing the impact of the textile industry. Society is slowly waking up to the dangers of fast fashion, and how unsustainable a disposable clothing culture is. After the oil industry, it is largest polluter in the world. The True Cost explores these impacts, looking at both the ethical cost and the environmental cost of fashion.

Overall, the documentary does focus on the treatment of textile workers a bit more than the environmental impact. However, it is a well-rounded view of the industry from a variety of perspectives. We see all elements of what goes into producing fashion, and how it makes consumers feel too. If you aren’t aware of the effect that making clothes has, or would like to learn more, this documentary is a great way of educating yourself. It tells a story that we are not always aware of.
