Just months after the first season aired on Netflix, The Bastard Son And The Devil Himself has been axed. The streaming site has regularly been hit-and-miss when it comes to its originals; some thriving and others falling flat on their face.

This production put together a lot of people who so far had experienced minor roles, with this being the opportunity for a big break. Amongst the more well-known people are Karen Connell, of Vikings fame, and Paul Ready, who is best known for starring alongside the likes of Richard Madden and Keeley Hawes in hit-series, Bodyguard.

Supernatural shows are clearly at the fore of the minds of Netflix, as can be seen by Lucifer and the latest blockbuster, Wednesday. Back to the topic at hand though, as previously mentioned, The Bastard Son And The Devil Himself has only lasted a single season. It was announced on Friday that this was the end of the road.

Half Bad, a young adult fiction novel written by Sally Green, is the basis of this TV series. Wolves, witches and everything in between were on display in this teen drama. Even Rotten Tomatoes, who are notoriously harsh, said: “Bring on season two.”

Joe Barton, the show’s creator gave his reaction to the news on Twitter:

Barton’s work had previously received strong reviews from critics and so this is something of a surprise, but the news comes just a week after Netflix cancelled another of their original shows, The Midnight Club. Co-creator Mike Flanagan came out and expressed his disappointment at that respective season, too.
