Sixteen Oceans // Four Tet – Niamh Ingram

Released: 13 March 2020

Sixteen Oceans consists of a range of sounds, yet is all drawn together by the synthesiser sounds that add a unique ambience, particularly once combined with the percussive production values.

Intertwined with gentler interludes, the album consists of the hugely streamed ‘Baby’ which provides an upbeat yet elegant tone which is set throughout the record. The downbeat tracks have provided a suitable backdrop to such a tumultuous year, where a more relaxed and chilled atmosphere has been required on numerous occasions. While surrounding external circumstances may not bring this, Kieran of Four Tet provides a much needed escapism from the everyday: in which he truly encapsulates the phrase ‘sit back and relax’ in musical form.

A cathartic escape for myself amongst a multitude of others, Sixteen Oceans came at just the right time: and Four Tet’s proposed 2021 album release will undoubtedly result in another set of quality tracks to immerse ourselves in.
