With its powerful vocals, exemplary guitars and incredible tunes, Dance with the Devil is the year’s standout heavy metal record. Rooted in the work of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, the all-female metal group laid down the gauntlet for their peers back in March and none have managed to remove it since.
The album is completely free of filler. From the moment it launches to the second it lands, every single part of this record is simply brilliant. Particular highlights include the bombastic ‘Lucid Nightmare’, the catchy title track and finale ‘Battle Hymn’, though that isn’t a slight on the rest of the album, all of which is similarly excellent.
Burning Witches are criminally underrated and with this effort, they proved that they deserve a place at metal’s top table. It is the best metal album of the year, without doubt, and the future is bright for the Swiss band.
