Nintendo have confirmed that the upgraded Switch 2 release of the 2017 open-world title The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild will not include the game’s paid DLC in a statement given to IGN.
During a Direct event earlier this month, Nintendo announced upgraded versions of both Breath Of The Wild and its 2023 sequel Tears Of The Kingdom for their upcoming Switch 2 console, alongside the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors spin-off series, Age of Imprisonment.
The enhanced versions of the games will feature a higher resolution and frame rate, HDR support, faster load times, and a second manual save slot. The games will also connect to a new mobile app that will provide a second screen-like experience with features like an external map and brand new story content in the form of ‘voice memories’.
Two DLC packs were released for Breath Of The Wild in the months following the game’s release. The first, The Master Trials, added several new features like the more difficult Master Mode, the Hero’s Path, which allows players to track their traversal across the open world throughout the game, and the Trial of the Sword. This 54-room dungeon requires the player to fight through gauntlets of enemies with only the equipment given to them.
The second, The Champion’s Ballad, added a new quest to the main story, seeing the player take on new, more difficult shrines, then taking on the Final Trial, a massive dungeon similar in design to the four Divine Beasts of the main game. This DLC pack also adds a new original boss, Monk Maz Koshia, and a motorcycle-like vehicle for the player as a reward for completing it. Both DLC packs are available to purchase together with the Breath Of The Wild expansion pass.
Breath Of The Wild originally retailed for $60, with DLC content priced at $20. The upgraded version of the game will retail for $70, but will not include the DLC content packed in. The DLC will need to be purchased separately for its original price.
The Switch 2 versions of Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom will be released as standalone titles, however players will be able to enhance their existing Switch copies of the games with $10 upgrade packs. This brings the combined price for the Switch 2 upgrade of Breath Of The Wild and its DLC to $90.
The upgraded releases of Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom will launch alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5 this year. Age Of Imprisonment is set to launch on an unconfirmed date this winter.
