According to Netflix, season four of Stranger Things was viewed for 287 million hours between May 23 and 30.

This surpassed Bridgerton season two, which had 193 million hours viewed over its debut weekend in March 2022. Created by the Duffer Brothers, the sci-fi series returned to screens after a three-year break.

Stranger Things is set in the 1980s and follows a group of friends as they battle supernatural beings. Between May 23 and 30, all four seasons of the show made it into Netflix’s Top 5 titles. Globally, season four made it to the number one spot in Netflix’s Top 10 across 83 countries. Season one came in third with 28 million hours viewed, with season 3 right behind it with 24.2 million hours and Season 2 came in fifth with 22.2 million hours viewed.

Season four of the show began with Joyce, Will, Jonathan and Eleven moving to California after Hopper seemingly dies at the end of season three.

Return of the Upside Down

“It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt,” says the synopsis. “Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time.

“In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”

Volume two of season four will air on July 1, but will only comprise of two episodes. It will then be followed by the fifth and final season, the date of which is yet to be announced.

Executive producer, Shawn Levy, recently told Entertainment Weekly: “I’ll just tell you, as great a volume I is, volume II is extraordinary. I can’t wait for the world to react to volume I, knowing that they have such rich episodes to come in just over a month.” According to creator Matt Duffer, episode eight is 85 minutes long, while episode nine is 170 minutes long.

Bridgerton season two still holds the title for most-viewed English-language show in its first 28 days, with 656.2 million hours watched, but Squid Games holds the record for most-watched show in its first 28 days.
