STARZ Sets Premiere Date for ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ Adaptation

STARZ has announced that Dangerous Liaisons, its eight-part period drama series adaptation of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ infamous eighteenth-century novel, Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons) will premiere Monday, November 7th at 1 am (in the UK).

It will be available to stream on STARZ and STARZ’s premium Amazon Prime Video channel, STARZPLAY (A 7-day free trial is available in the UK, alternatively the service is available for £4.99 per month). The subsequent seven episodes will be released weekly at 12 am on Mondays (with the series concluding on December 26th).

In addition to revealing the premiere date, the network has also released a teaser trailer.

The 1782 epistolary novel, Les Liaisons Dangereuses follows the diabolical exploits of, the Vicomte de Valmont and the Marquise de Merteuil; both of whom employ schemes, manipulation, and seduction to manoeuvre socially for sadistic joy, and for survival.

The show shall focus on the origin story of the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont, centring on how the pair met as passionate young lovers in Paris in the days leading to the Révolution française.

Alice Englert (Ginger and Rosa) and Nicholas Denton (Glitch) star as the notorious leads. Lesley Manville (Academy Award nominee), Kosar Ali (BAFTA nominee), Carice Van Houten (Emmy nominee), Hilton Pelser, Fisayo Akinade, Michael McElhatton, Nathanael Saleh, Colette Dalal Tchantcho, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, and Tom Wlaschiha also feature in the ensemble cast.

The series is produced for STARZ by Playground and Flame Ventures in association with Lionsgate Television.

Les Liaisons Dangereuses has been adapted to screen several times, notably, the academy award-winning Dangerous Liaisons (1988) starring Glenn Close, Michelle Pfeiffer, and John Malkovich and the cult classic Cruel Intentions (1999) starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon, and Ryan Phillippe.
