Star Wars: The Mandalorian has expanded its cast list to include the Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd.
The news was first broken by The Hollywood Reporter, who explained that the actor’s role has yet to be confirmed, but will likely be a guest role instead of a recurring one. Star Wars has a long tradition of bringing characters from its extended universe into live-action, so it would be no surprise if Llyod was set to play a character with a pre-established backstory.

This move is bound to thrill Star Wars fans, as the actor is well-revered in science fiction. He is best known for his portrayal of Doc Brown in the classic Spielberg film, Back to the Future. The actor has appeared in several other franchises, such as Star Trek, and is a multi-Emmy award winner for shows such as the comedy Taxi. Lloyd has also appeared in many theatre productions. Recently, he was been a part of the 2021 film The Tender Bar, alongside Ben Affleck (Gone Girl) and Tye Sheridan (Ready Player One).
Little is currently known about the third season of the show. A full cast list is yet to be given, however, Pedro Pascal is set to return as Din Djarin, Carl Weathers is returning to direct and play Greef Karga and Katee Sackhoff will play Bo-Katan Kryze. Gina Carano will not be returning as Cara Dune after being fired for her social media activity.
There is so far no release date for its debut, nor trailer for fans to get excited about. Filming for the season is set to wrap up on March 23rd, however, due to the pandemic continuing to impact the industry this date could be extended. The next Star Wars project to premiere on Disney Plus will be the long-awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi series, starting on May 25th.
