St Petersburg Ballet Theatre have announced an additional performance of Swan Lake in Dublin.
An extra matinee show on 3 April has been added to the company’s run at Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.
The ballet will star St Petersburg Ballet’s Prima Ballerina Irina Kolesnikova. She will be joined by Principal Dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet Anna Nikulina and Alexander Volchkov, who will perform the lead roles on selected dates.
The dancers will be accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s classic score, which will be played by the Irish National Opera.
Swan Lake tells the love story between Prince Siegfried and Odette, a princess who was turned into a swan by a curse.
St Petersburg Ballet Theatre was founded in 1994 and is well known for its Vaganova-trained dancers and full-length productions. The company travels worldwide, and their repertoire includes classical ballets such as Giselle, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty.
Their 2019 season received good reviews from the Irish media, with EILE Magazine describing it as “a magnificent show” that “should not be missed”.
Later this year, they will perform Swan Lake in Cape Town and Johannesburg, with dates in Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia to be announced soon.
Swan Lake will run from 29 March – 3 April at Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. Tickets for all performances cost €31-€120 and can be purchased online.
