This week’s selection comes from Jamie Smith, more commonly recognised as one third of indie pop band The xx. Now known as Jamie xx, the London- based producer released his debut solo album In Colour at the beginning of June , and it is from this album that we take our Song of the Week .
Being a somewhat melancholy choice for a summer month, ‘Loud Places’, the first single from the record features chilling vocals from The xx frontwoman Romy Madley-Croft. Telling an emotional tale of loneliness and insecurity, the track manages to redeem itself in earning the status of summer tune as a chorus of rousing voices arises alongside big drums and gospel handclaps. Therefore, despite the devastating lyrics, ‘Loud Places’ builds up to a warm yet gloriously emotional culmination, providing a perfect soundtrack to those serene summer nights.
