Song of the Week (11th May): Safe To Surface // Brontosaurus

The Chicago-born duo Brontosaurus announced their sophomore album Our Animal Ways with a somewhat graceful crash when they accompanied the announcement with the album’s debut single, ‘Safe To Surface’. The five and a half minutes the track spans take you on a journey where pop and prog-rock – genres which arguably should never come together at all – collide in spectacular fashion. The use of pianos and eerie synths with hard-hitting guitars and booming drums create something to truly behold.

The song is structured ingeniously, letting the vocals subtly blend in with the rest of the instruments, whilst it gives a taste of the crescendo to come. In this way it feels more like an instrumental than a backing track that the vocalist has sung over, and it’s worthy of having you lay on your bed in admiration.

You can download the track for free here, and Brontosaurus’ new album will be available from June 6th.
