‘Snowpiercer’ Season Four Cancelled by TNT

Snowpiercer has been left on unsteady ground after TNT suspended their original content. Warner Brothers Discovery has done so in a bid to strategise the network’s future, so fans of TNT’s originals Animal Kingdom and Snowpiercer will likely have to wait a little longer for their conclusions. Filming had already finished on the final season of Snowpiercer, but the show will have to look beyond TNT to draw the dystopian series to its rightful conclusion.

Cancellations of original content is familiar territory for fans and creators alike. Most recently, the Gossip Girl reboot has been cancelled part-way through its second season. Fate: The Winx Saga, One Of Us Is Lying, and Warrior Nun are just a few of the cancellations made by Netflix after two seasons, and 1899 (a well-reviewed German period mystery) became another short-lived series despite widespread fan outrage.

Yet, Snowpiercer demonstrates a newer problem—the possibility of a cancellation after the renewal and production process has finished. It appears original series may see themselves lost altogether, even if a promised renewal and the beginnings of production insinuate otherwise (after all, Snowpiercer saw itself renewed in July 2021 during season three’s production, and Netflix original The Society saw itself renewed and then cancelled before filming could begin). And it appears fans have noticed their shows are at risk by streaming giants.

Fans of Snowpiercer will have to hold out hope another network will claim Snowpiercer as its own. After three successful seasons, the plot and its world have been gradually expanding. Originally based on the French graphic novel by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette, and the 2013 film adaptation of the same name, Snowpiercer has moved beyond its source, layering intensity, diverting characters, and harsh fates to curate a dystopian, captivating series.

You can watch seasons one to three of Snowpiercer on Netflix, whilst news of season four’s landing will be awaited.
