As exams, college and school all near a close, the one thing on everybody’s mind is summer – and Sheffield four piece The Wired have produced a new single that can most definitely be the soundtrack to it.
Upbeat and with a warm northern rawness that could only come from natural talent and passion (or the streets of Sheffield), ‘Summer Sun’ is a feel good track and makes for easy listening. The catchy, guitar reverb-powered anthem calls for a place on a festival stage, a sight that does not seem far off when one considers the progress the boys have made. Having formed only last summer, The Wired have already played many sold-out shows and are continuing this streak in a variety of venues across the UK, including a sold-out show at Leadmill, a big Manchester gig with a DJ set from The Enemy and a support slot with a guitarist from The Who (yes, The Who!!) in The 100 Club, London. Impressive stuff for any band’s repertoire.
Whilst it is tempting to compare The Wired to their Sheffield music god predecessors, Arctic Monkeys, it is clear they are very much their own band and on to something fresh with their music, with no intentions of slowing down. It is with such genuine excitement and happiness that I review the boys’ music and smile when their disc packages come through the post, because this really is a band with huge potential that can certainly hold their own amongst the myriad of indie boy bands sprouting roots.
‘Summer Sun’ can be ordered on their website from the 28th June and is already available on iTunes.
