Singer and songwriter Uma is back with ‘Muay Thai’, a new single that also shares its name with a four-track EP. This latest release is a homage to her family. According to the singer, this song is connected to her previous single ‘Granada’. And it is a declaration of love for her parents.
The single cover (a black and white picture) recalls an old photograph, the song is exactly like when you look at childhood pictures of your parents: there’s a feeling of nostalgia coupled with the recognition that before you they have been human beings, with a personal life.
Her voice is key in conveying this feeling. When she sings “You’re close to the sun” the immediate reminder is to the figure of Icarus, who burns too close to the sun in order to catch freedom. The song seems to celebrate the freedom that she experiences in her family.
This track is more into synth-pop than previous ethereal singles, showing a slight change of path in her experimentation.
The Barcelona-based artist, together with partner and collaborator Luke Bower, keeps on producing and writing music. Set to release one track per month in 2023, Uma will close the year with a full mixtape on her label Slow Dance.
