Single Review: Luna // Veludo Planes

Southsea quartet Veludo Planes have been bubbling under the indie radar for the past year after relentlessly playing gigs in 2016. Support slots with the likes of Spring King, and the release of their latest single Luna, sees the hype surrounding Veludo Planes reach boiling point.

Kicking off with a rattling melody, Luna clings closely to the nostalgic and climactic style seen with previous singles The Snows of Kilimanjaro and Wickerman. Filled with angst, this clanging guitar melody holds its own amongst the Bombay Bicycle Club-esque sound before lead singer Mike Smith belts out ‘Because lately we got our messages crossed!’ in a vibrant and heartfelt chorus.

The transition from these drawling 90s-style guitar riffs reach their peak when they’re exchanged for a bridge doused in euphoria, relying only on a heady combination of a bass drum and invigorating lead guitars to carry it through to a glimmering finish of colliding drums, bass, and guitars.

Luna is an anthemic single from one of the brightest talents from the South; this single is surely a sign of greater things to come from the Portsmouth lads.
