The mid-tempo confessional track focuses on Diamandis’ feelings of guilt and selfishness, with the singer proclaiming: “I’ll ruin, yeah I’ll ruin you / I’ve been doing things I shouldn’t do”. Diamandis has revisited her original indie-pop roots that made her famous on this track, however fans of her electropop sophomore album Electra Heart (2012) will not be disappointed lyrically. ‘I’m A Ruin’ centres on the emotions that fans are most familiar with in the singer’s writing: the hardships of youth and a bittersweet heartbreak. As ever, Diamandis doesn’t disappoint.
Froot will be fully ripe on 6th April.
