Q: Is this really a song based around a famous type of trainer?
A: If expecting ‘yes’, you’ll be thoroughly disappointed.

As the first single from Hot Chip’s upcoming sixth album Why Make Sense?, ‘Huarache Lights’ offers the listener something far more profound than the title suggests. It its 5:29 minute duration to discuss matters surrounding the inevitable comforts and worries that come with age, as well as giving us a taste of their latest and highly anticipated take on the world of electronic.

The track itself is everything you’d expect from the London five-piece, and showcases a combination of refined drums, heavy synths and smooth vocals to create an upbeat, club-ready anthem that’s relatable and thoroughly emotive all the same. Moving away from the rockier sounds of 2012’s In Our Heads, Hot Chip now appear to be throwing in frequent nods back to genres such as hip hop and RnB, and if ‘Huarache Lights’ is anything to go by, they’ve undoubtedly nailed it.
