With a name forever indebted to a piece of Sheffield history, it’s rather fitting that Adelphi fit firmly within the Steel City tradition of characterful indie rock. Having introduced themselves last year courtesy of the upbeat ‘Hip Shaker’ and ‘Ego Tamer’, ‘Firing Line’ marks an interesting foray into a more uproarious and rough-round-the-edges sound.

Wasting no time in cutting to the insistent riff and drumbeat that form the crux of the song, an instant and rather impactful impression is made on you from the very beginning. This boisterous clash of guitar, snare and cymbal is layered behind dueted vocals and is carried throughout the three-and-a-half minutes, refusing to pause for a break or drop the tempo. Influences from Sheffield favourites Milburn can readily be heard in the lyrical and singing style, along with a post-punkish kick added for good measure. There’s also a damn catchy chorus, and one you’d surely have to hear live to do full justice to.
If ‘Firing Line’ is anything to go by, Adelphi are sharp shooters. Expect to hear a lot more from these lads soon.
