The Sherlocks – otherwise known merely as the Crook & Davidson brothers without their memorable moniker – have gone from strength to strength over the past year, especially since the release of their debut single ‘Live For The Moment’. The somewhat unprecedented rise of the single into the iTunes charts acts as a firm statement of intent from both the band and their ever-growing following. However, with the release of their sophomore single ‘Escapade’ fast approaching, we have one question on our minds. Is the second bite of the apple even juicier than the first? Well, If you know anything about this band, you should already know the answer to that.
The song is chock-full of colloquial observations – in a similar vein to that which made a name for Arctic Monkeys in their early days – inhabiting seemingly effortlessly crafted rhyming triplets from the get-go: “You spend half your wage, before you get paid, on a brand new dress before the escapade“. Fast transpiring into a voluminous pre-chorus, in glowing anticipation of the cathartically catchy, lead-driven chorus. That’s by no means your lot, either. The final piece of the puzzle comes in the form of a silky smooth outro, meandering around the repeated proclamation of “You’re not alone”, towards the re-occurrence of the explosive opening riff – effectively bookending the rest of the song.
2015 looks set to be an exciting, action-packed year for The Sherlocks, having already embarked on their widespread UK tour. The band will be stopping off in Wales, for the first time. Impressive, yes, but the pièce de résistance for many a punter and of course the band themselves must surely be their hometown headline gig at Sheffield’s Leadmill on 20th June.
Now, anyone still questioning whether these guys are the real deal? Thought not. ‘Escapade’ is available on iTunes from February 16th & be sure to check out the band’s official site for tour dates, social media links etc.
