Florence and the Machine release their highly anticipated third album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful in June, following on from their excellent critically acclaimed albums Ceremonials and Lungs. As a taster to the album’s release, three singles (‘What Kind of Man’, ‘Ship to Wreck’, and ‘St Jude’) have been released, and ‘Delilah’ was unveiled earlier this week.
This track is upbeat, lively and spine tingling. It features a typical layer of singer Florence Welch’s stunningly powerful vocals, along with a simple chord progression. When combined, these sound fantastic and leave you wanting more, with an infectious drumbeat that makes you want to dance. Lyrically it is also strong, as it describes Welch being trapped in a destructive relationship: “It’s a different kind of danger / And the bells are ringing out” demonstrating a sense of panic.
‘Delilah’ builds on the strength of the previous singles and if this is an indication to what the album will sound like, then you are in for a treat.
