The four from Swansea have been growing a strong fanbase since 2009 with their experimental alternative pop. With their debut album set to drop sometime in the near future, The Effect are starting the the year with a bang by releasing their new single ‘Baptism’ featuring the piercing vocals of Rebecca Need-Menear. English rock due, Anavae, have leant their front women Rebecca to The Effect for a first shot at a collaboration, and boy has it paid off.

The song opens with a classic guitar riff that immediately hooks in the listener, their pop influence allowing catchy hooks of guitar and harmonies to die for. ‘Baptism’ takes a reasonably dark lyrical route, reflected in the dimly lit music video that’s split between shots of the band playing their instruments and the two singers powerfully singing into each others faces. The chills the song itself gives you with the snarky riffs and sharp harmonies is embodied in the cold breath mixed in with the daunting smoke in the video.

The two singers vocals compliment each other powerfully, so we can’t wait to see what The Effect have to bring for us later in the year with their debut album.
