Teasing their return with a The 1975 style wiping of the Instagram and complete theme reset, JAWS have re-emerged onto the scene with their latest indie-fuelled gem, ‘Are My Friends Alright?’.
Known for dreamy and fuzzy cuts, JAWS have stapled themselves as true stalwarts on the underground indie scene, and this most recent release sits as their most mature and fresh offering to date.
‘Are My Friends Alright?’ sees the band depart from the breezy guitars of ‘Think Too Much, Feel Too Little’ and cutting vocals of ‘Driving At Night’ to deliver something entirely new.
The track boasts subtle electronic notes, reverbed vocals and soaring guitar lines in a slightly more DIY take on the JAWS that we’re used to. As the title suggests, the band offer reflections on friendship sandwiched between buzzy instrumentals and infectious vocalisations.
Accompanying the new cut is the announcement of their upcoming EP If It Wasn’t For My Friends, Things Could Be Different (out September 15th), and a UK Autumn tour.
Talking on the new EP, the band note:
“Since our last tour — where we all caught Covid and ended up isolating for Christmas! — JAWS have been working on a lot of new music. Choosing to go a bit more DIY than previously and putting Connor’s lockdown MA in Commercial Music Production to good use, this project is entirely self-produced and afforded us the opportunity to really capture our sound.”
If the lead track is anything to go by, this new project will be a brilliant addition to JAWS’ already glistening discography. The four year wait is worth it.
