In anticipation of her forthcoming EP, Mess – released on the 20th of November – Spanish alternative-pop artist, Sofi De La Torre recently dropped the second single off the project, ’19 in Mexico’. A staccato, almost hesitant electronic intro dips the listener’s toes into the waters of her unique blend of electro genres. Layers of silvery synths, a gradually emerging baseline and a heavy keyboard progression layer over one another so that by the time the heavily synthesised vocals make their appearance the track is brimming with melody.

A moody, synthesised sound primarily dominates the track, with a collection of vocal variations which further contribute to the dreamy overlay of the song. There is a slightly disappointingly samey melodic consistency throughout however, with not much variety in terms of the backing track. Nevertheless, in spite of the occasional melody ruts and mildly predictable lyrics, Sofi De La Torre has succeeded in producing an endearing yet dramatic peek into her upcoming musical project.
