Shorter Episodes For ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5

Volume Two of Stranger Things Season Four has finally been released, ending a season of nine episodes. Together, this totalled around 13 hours. Despite the massive runtime, many fans have already finished the season and are now speculating about season five. No doubt this speculation is amplified by the season four finale; for the first time in the show’s history, the final episode of the season left the fate of our favourite characters uncertain and the danger facing them unyielding. Season five is also hotly anticipated because the show creators, the Duffer brothers, confirmed earlier this year that it will be the final Season of Stranger Things.

What do we know about season five?

Luckily, for keen Stranger Things fans, the Duffer Brothers are already talking about what season five might entail. In a recent interview on the podcast HappySadConfused, Matt and Ross Duffer spent an hour chatting with Josh Horowitz about all things Stranger Things, including what to expect from the final season. One key piece of information revealed was that the episodes in season five are likely to be shorter in length than the increasingly hefty episodes of season four. The creators explained that this is because things will be “moving pretty fast from the start of [Season Five]” and there won’t be the same ramp-up to the action as there had been previously. Additionally, they anticipate that all of the main characters will be back in Hawkins for the last season, which will streamline the story.

However, season five will still provide plenty of material to binge-watch. The show finale is expected to be “at least two hours long,” so don’t despair if you enjoyed the film-length episodes at the end of season four. However, we’re unlikely to get another 13-hour season for the final instalment.

When will season five come out?

If you’ve binge-watched your way through season four and are now impatiently awaiting the finale, show star David Harbour believes it will be released in summer 2024. While that’s still a while to wait, it’s at least a quicker release than season four, which took three years to come out. In the meantime, the Duffer Brothers have just released an online series on the learning platform Masterclass, which includes 18 lessons on creating and writing a TV series (although Masterclass is a paid platform starting at £14/per month). Hopefully, we’ll also get lots of behind-the-scenes content to tide us over until season five, which can’t come soon enough.

Over and out, nerds.
