After her directorial debut Booksmart, actor and director Olivia Wilde (Her) had made herself known in Hollywood as a fresh and exciting new director. It’s no surprise then that New Line Cinema were quick to take on distribution of her next project, Don’t Worry Darling, which will feature big names like Florence Pugh, Shia LaBeouf and Chris Pine.

Booksmart didn’t top the box-office but was well-loved by critics, earning a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The coming-of-age comedy, starring Kaitlyn Denver and Beanie Feldstein, was praised for its smart writing and inclusivity. One Booksmart writer, Katie Silberman, is reported to be working on Wilde’s sophomore feature.

Not much else is known as it is still in development, but Don’t Worry Darling has been described as a psychological thriller about an unhappy housewife, set in the 1950s. This time it will feature Wilde herself, unlike in Booksmart where, despite the appearance of her husband, Jason Sudeikis, the actor stayed strictly behind camera. She took to twitter to express her excitement for the cast:

Not only has Wilde recently proven herself to be one to look out for in the future, but Florence Pugh has also found herself in the spotlight recently, after starring in hit films like Midsommar and Oscar-nominated Little Women. This year, she will also star alongside Scarlett Johansson in Marvel’s Black Widow as Yelena Belova.

Shia LaBeouf’s most recent film, Honey Boy (directed by Alma Har’el), was written by the star himself and both the film and his performance as James (a character based on his own father) earned excellent reviews from critics.

Fans of Wilde and such a well-loved cast are rightfully and eagerly excited to hear more about Don’t Worry Darling. For more on this film, make sure to visit The Indiependent where we will have all the updates.
