Rockstar will pay Grand Theft Auto Online modder T0st a $10k reward after they found a way to reduce loading times on PC by 70%.
At the start of March, T0st, who was sick of the long loading times discovered a way to reduce them by up to 70% on PC. Additionally, they released the fix and a detailed analysis of what was wrong and how they fixed it. The patch fixes a single thread CPU bottleneck that occurs when loading the 7-year-old game.
Rockstar has confirmed that T0st did indeed fix the issue plaguing the long loading times stating, “As a result of these investigations, we have made some changes that will be implemented in a forthcoming title update.”
T0st will be rewarded $10k for his work through Rockstar’s H1 in-game bounty program, a reward that is usually reserved for identifying security issues in their online games.
Since the update players have seen a drastic change in load times. User Ontyyy shared “Insane. GTA menu -> GTA: Online. Dropped from 7 minutes to 1:57,” Who says they’re using an i7-2600k with a GTX 1070 and 16 GB RAM PC, with other players stating similar changes.
Rockstar’s official patch notes include a thank you to T0st, “for his contributions around this part of today’s title update”.
