Almost 50 years after the bell rang concluding what widely is considered to be one of the greatest sporting events of the 20th century, Rumble in the Jungle Rematch, a new immersive theatrical experience based upon the iconic heavyweight championship bout between George Foreman and Muhammad Ali has been announced.
The bout, better known as The Rumble in the Jungle was estimated to have been watched by as many as one billion television viewers across the globe (over a quarter of the world’s population at the time).
Rumble in the Jungle Rematch will combine the elegance of theatre and the raw excitement of pugilism transporting audiences back to 1974 Zaire.
The production by award-winning theatre company Rematch will be mounted in partnership with Muhammad Ali Enterprises.
Founder of Rematch, Richard Ayers, commented: “Sport has the power to inspire and unite people from all over the world and from different cultural backgrounds. Rumble in the Jungle and Muhammad Ali transcend national and cultural boundaries which is why, following the success of Wimbledon Rematch 1980, we are thrilled to be reimagining one of the greatest moments in sporting history.”
The show is expected to launch in early 2023. No venue has been revealed.
