Sony has just revealed details for the upcoming PS5 console, which is slated to release this holiday season. The live stream event titled “The Future of Gaming” showcased a number of interesting games that will be made available for the console. Some of the titles are sequels to celebrated franchises – like the new Spiderman game centered around Miles Morales, the much-anticipated sequel for Horizon Zero Dawn, and a new entry for the Ratchet & Clank series – while others are new IPs looking to make their mark on this next generation of consoles.
The design of the console has also been revealed. This time around, the console’s appearance deviates from the all-black color scheme and rectangular design associated with the PlayStation brand ever since the release of the PlayStation 2 back in 2000. This new design is definitely inspired, to say the least, but the reactions seem to be pretty mixed so far.
Along with the regular version, Sony revealed a disc-less digital edition for the upcoming console. This version of the console shares the same design as the main one (except for the disc drive, of course). Various accessories for the console have also been announced, such as an HD Camera, a Pulse 3D wireless headset, a media remote, and a charging station for the DualSense controllers. The price for either version of the console has not been announced yet.
All in all, it’s clear that there was a general sense of excitement from the fan base once the showcase was over, unlike the lukewarm reaction to Microsoft’s recent 20/20 event for the Xbox Series X. The future of PlayStation is looking bright as it enters this next generation of consoles, and with the release of The Last of Us II this week, it looks like Sony will be maintaining their momentum for the time being.
