Royalty is set to hit the streets of Albert Square in June, as the BBC has confirmed that Charles and Camilla will make a one-off guest appearance on Eastenders to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The platinum jubilee marks 70 years of the Queen being on the throne.

In scenes set to air on BBC One on Thursday 2 June, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will rock up to the Queen Vic as the square prepares to host a Platinum Jubilee street party.

Fans of the soap have already seen Mick, played by Danny Dyer, announce his plans to host a party on the street to mark the occasion. Unbeknownst to residents, he has two special surprise guests lined up.

While it’s unlikely that any other party in the UK will enjoy a shock visit from a member of the royal household, this is Eastenders, the soap infamous for murderous vicars, Christmas Day divorces, and returns from the dead. Anything is possible.

When the royal couple arrives, it’s up to Linda Carter, played by Kellie Bright, to play host.

Speaking of her time with the royals, Bright said: “I did think what amazing sports that they are just willing to do it. I just thought wow, they’ve never done anything like this before.

“They didn’t really know what to expect, I mean it must have been nerve wracking for them and completely out of their norm. So I just hope they enjoyed it as much as we did!”

On social media, some have praised the appearance, with one person saying: “How lovely. I am looking forward to seeing it. Well done to them.”

Others seemed less enthusiastic by the news, with eagle-eyed fans noting that the portrait of Princess Diana that usually hangs in the pub had been moved.

“Not them taking the Diana portrait down just in time for Charles and Camilla to come ahshahah,” one tweeted.

This won’t be the first time that the square has welcomed famous faces. Other celebrity cameos include now Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who appeared in an episode in 2009 while he was Mayor of London. Way back in 1995, Robbie Williams was also spotted in a brief scene too, using the Queen Vic’s phone.
