Since its formation in 2001, Blissfields Festival has become a hotspot for festival-goers, who seek something a little more out of the ordinary in comparison to everything that all mainstream festivals have to offer. Renowned for its relaxing aura and laid-back approach, it’s certainly an event that shouldn’t be missed on your festival calendar. This year’s theme, which is ‘House Party’, promises their most exciting event so far.
2016 sees Blissfields entertain undoubtedly their strongest line-up to date, encompassing a plethora of genres to formulate what proves to be a sterling roster. Headline performances are provided by grime kingpin Dizzee Rascal, someone who needs no introduction, and indie stalwarts Everything Everything, whose most recent album Get To Heaven has been met with universal critical acclaim.
With previous lineups providing the likes of the esteemed Mystery Jets and Mumford and Sons, it doesn’t come as a surprise to see that the rest of the festival’s roster is overflowing with some of the hottest acts around right now. Friday will play host to indie-psych quintet Swim Deep, as well as the much revered Billie Marten. They will be joined by newcomers The Big Moon as well as the likes of Sundara Karma and Blaenavon.
Saturday sees an explosion of sound, with world renowned DJ Shy FX set to wow revellers. Hard-hitters Spring King will be seeking to further enhance the blossoming reputation that they have so far ascertained, as will Loyle Carner who is currently fronting a resurgence in UK hip-hop. Other big names such as Beans On Toast and Dub Pistols will also be joining them.
However, it’s important to note that Blissfields certainly offers a lot more than simply just music. 2016 sees the introduction of ‘The Bay’, which by day offers a spot of beach-themed respite from the musical festivities and at night turns in to one big party. The Hidden Hedge will also entertain art installations, fire pits and the Area 51 dance dome, which will feature top bands and DJs from across the electro, jungle, deep house, drum and bass spectrum.
If everything on offer doesn’t impress you enough already, then hopefully the generous price of a weekend ticket should, which currently stands at £105.
