The Stage Debut Awards 2022, in association with Ambassador Theatre Group, have announced this year’s performances and award presenters, hosted by BAFTA award winner Susan Wokoma.
In spotlighting the best creatives of the performing arts industry, the awards will highlight performances from across the UK in an evening of theatrical celebration. Wokoma has expressed their excitement about hosting:
“I am absolutely THRILLED to host The Stage Debut Awards and welcome all the fresh faced theatre huns into our magical world. It’s so important to lift up young talent as well as people of any age conquering theatre for the first time.”
Her previous performances in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Labour of Love have gained her accolades, alongside her on-screen credits in E4’s Chewing Gum and Netflix’s Enola Holmes.
Actor Amanda Abbington, of TV, film, and theatre praise, will present the award for Best Performer in a Play. Olivier and Tony Award-nominated director Jamie Lloyd is set to present the Best Director category, whilst singer-songwriter and performer Louise Redknapp will present the award for Best Creative West End Debut.
Strictly Come Dancing winner Jay McGuiness will present the award for Best Composer, Lyricist or Book Writer. Olivier award-winner Matt Henry will present the award for Best Performer in a Musical, whilst multi-award nominated theatre designer Anna Fleischle shall present the Best Designer category.
Sam Tutty from Dear Evan Hansen and Shan Ako from Hamilton have joined forces to perform an original song created by Jim Barnes and Kit Buchan, winners of the Best Composer, Lyricist or Book Writer award in 2020.
The Stage Debut Awards 2022 will be hosted on Sunday 18 September at 6:00pm, available to stream live on The Stage’s Facebook page.
