This August, Penguin Classics are set to publish their first collection of a brand-new series, Little Clothbound Classics.

Described as “collectable, small-format editions of short stories, novellas and essays from some of the greatest writers in the Penguin Classics list”, the collection comes after the success of the original clothbound classics series, which has birthed an impassioned online community of giddy collectors.

The Autumn collection, set to be released on 25 August 2022, includes Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis, Edgar Allen Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death, and Jane Austen’s Lady Susan.

Edited by Jessica Harrison, a further three seasonal collections will be published over a year, spanning 48 titles in total. Each will stay true to the original clothbound classics, with the trademark brightly-coloured cloth stamped with foil designs created by Coralie Bickford-Smith.

Booklovers can expect to see a range of retail materials coming to local bookshops soon, including posters and bookmarks, to market the campaign. There will also be a website dedicated to the series, which will be exclusively available via QR codes on the books. This online space is rumoured to include competitions as a thank you for those on the #BookTok and #Bookstagram side of social media, all of whom, Penguin claims, have massively contributed to making the series so popular. You can explore the new Little Clothbound Classics series here.
