Happy Idiot’s Not: Lady Chatterley’s Lover will tour from 17 September to 21 November.
The show is a subversive parody of D.H. Lawrence’s classic novel. It follows Lady Chatterley as she becomes disillusioned with her marriage after growing distant from her husband, and turns to an affair with the estate gamekeeper.
Writer Lawrence Russell will play Lord Chatterley, having previously performed in Comedy Dinner Shows and Eastenders. Christina Baston stars as Lady Chatterley alongside Rebecca McClay as Mrs Bolton and Wesley Griffith as Mellors.
Ben Simpson will direct, while set design will be done by Phil Eddolls, music by Savage and Spies, and integrated audio design by Chloe Phillips.
Rekha Dosaj is the show’s accessibility consultant, while Dr Catherine Brown is the script advisor.
Russell said: “There are so many incredibly high-stakes moments in the book that, with a few twists, exaggerations and undercutting of the bleak themes, you can create countless laugh out loud moments.
“I’m really proud that we’ve been able to incorporate integrated audio description and creative captioning as standard for every show, meaning that those who have difficulties with their hearing or sight will get the jokes at the same time as everyone else!”
Griffith took to Twitter to express his excitement.
“Could not be more excited by this!” he said. “Literally a dream job with a dream team!”
