  1. “And I was told that the streets were made of gold, and there’d be no time for getting old when we were young.” – ‘The Dying of the Light’

‘The Dying of the Light,’ from his sophomore album, is in the type of songs Noel Gallagher excels in writing. It is reminiscent of ‘Talk Tonight’ and ‘If I Had A Gun’ in its poetic lyrics and his expertise on an acoustic guitar. This lyric, sitting proud in the chorus, stands out on Chasing Yesterday. Its innocence, overwhelmed by this nostalgia and the wisdom of hindsight, taints the youth presented. I can only imagine how hard-hitting hearing this would be for someone of Noel’s age, but with the most exciting part of my life ahead of me it is quite harrowing to hear. The shortness of life is emphasised in this dreamy track, making ‘The Dying of the Light’ all the more poignant.
