Tickets for Disney’s new reimagined production of the Broadway hit Newsies at London’s Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre will go on sale Thursday 16 June at 10am, with priority tickets on sale from 10am on Wednesday 15 June.
The production will play at the theatre for a strictly limited season from 29 November 2022. All preview tickets will be priced at £30.
It marks the first time the musical has played to audiences in the UK, in a production that the producers have described as “innovative and immersive.” The show, which contains music penned by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a book by Harvey Fierstein, will be directed and choreographed by Olivier nominee Matt Cole. Casting for the show is yet to be announced.
The show follows other successful productions at the theatre, including the National Theatre’s War Horse and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.
Newsies was adapted from the 1992 film of the same name, starring Christian Bale in the lead, and directed by Kenny Ortega. It is set in New York City and based on the true story of the newsboys’ strike of 1899, following Joseph Pulitzer raising the prices of his newspapers. While the original film was a box-office failure, its stage adaptation was met with great acclaim, playing over ten times more than its original slate, and winning two Tony Awards in the process.
