The second series of audio-theatre project Hear Myself Think will explore mental health from the perspective of groups who most often suffer in silence.

Launching on 5 November 2022, this newest series will follow the format set out in its debut, with listeners invited to join a new character each episode as they engage in a simple activity whilst talking about their experiences with mental health. Making a cup of tea, going for a walk or tidying up; it’s in mirroring these actions that listeners develop a deeper bond with the characters and identify more closely with their struggles.

The series, produced with guidance from mental health advisors and advocacy organisations, aims to encourage listeners towards small, manageable tasks and activities for the betterment of their own mental health.

Unlike the first series of Hear Myself Think, this follow-up will open the curtains on the perspectives of groups least likely to receive mental health support, including people from minority ethnic backgrounds, the LGTBQ+ community, people with disabilities and those who are neurodivergent.

Mental health often goes ignored or undiagnosed among minority groups, despite sometimes being more prevalent. According to data from the Mental Health Foundation, only 7% of Brits from BAME backgrounds have received mental health support, compared with 13.3% of their white counterparts. Additionally, around half of the people in the LGBTQ+ community have experienced depression, whilst the national average sits at around 20% of the population.
