Dundee Rep’s new musical THIS IS A LOVE STORY will be performed to the public for the first time in November to mark COP26.

The show uses pop music to tell the 200,000 year love story between Earth and Humanity. It will document the initial sparks and the toxic relationship we see today, and consider if it is possible for Humanity to make up for the pain they have caused Earth.

It will be performed by two actors, and a live band will be on stage. Continuous creative captioning will be integrated into the video design.

The music and lyrics are written by Jack Godfrey, and the book and additional lyrics are written by Ellie Coote. Miranda Cromwell is the director, while Gavin Whitworth is the orchestrator and musical director, Grant Anderson is the lighting designer and Laura Spark is the video designer.

Godfrey and Coote said: “We’re really excited to have our first public showing of THIS IS A LOVE STORY at a theatre which is so passionate about new musical theatre. We are also thrilled to bring the show to both a live streamed and in-person audience as part of the Rep Studios line-up and we’re so excited to see how the audience will respond to the show.”

The show has been commissioned by Vicky Graham, and the performance’s development has been supported by HOME Manchester.

It celebrates Dundee Rep’s Climate Beacon status. Climate Beacons for COP26 is a Scotland-wide collaborative project between environmental and arts organisations to increase long-term public engagement before and after COP26.

The performance will be shown at Dundee Rep and livestreamed on 6 November. Tickets can be purchased online.
