Netflix have released an exciting teaser trailer for the third and final season of dark comedy Dead to Me.

At Netflix’s annual Tudum event, one of its stars, James Marsden, introduced the trailer to fans; the first glimpse of Liz Feldman’s show since its sophomore season in May 2020.

In its first outing, the series follows Jen (Christina Applegate), an estate agent coming to terms with the loss of her husband in a hit-and-run, who meets fellow widow Judy (Linda Cardellini) at a grief support group. The two strike up a close friendship, but all is not as it seems, with Judy revealed to be the driver that killed Jen’s husband. The season ended, ironically, with Jen killing Judy’s ex-husband Steve (Marsden) after learning he was a passenger in the car.

At the close of season two, viewers were left concerned for Jen and Judy as they were involved in a crash caused by Jen’s love interest and Steve’s twin brother Ben (also played by Marsden!), after a season spent trying to cover up Steve’s murder. It has been more than two years since this cliffhanger, with production on the forthcoming season delayed by both the pandemic and Applegate’s MS diagnosis in 2021.

The new trailer confirms that, although injured, both characters survive the crash: a hilarious and particularly sweary scene shows Jen in a neck brace in the hospital. We don’t learn much more about the upcoming story, with the trailer cleverly providing a recap of the events so far, reminding viewers of the madcap, twist-filled plot. The short clip, however, reinforces that the relationship between Jen and Judy is at the core of Dead to Me, and that this dynamic will continue to develop throughout the final season.

Aside from our two leads, season three casting is yet to be announced, but it is likely Marsden will return as Ben. We might also see Natalie Morales again, who joined the cast in season two as Judy’s romantic interest, Michelle. Finally, it is also expected that season three will see the return of Jere Burns, Sam McCarthy, Suzy Nakamura, Luke Roessler, Brandon Scott, and Diana Maria Riva, as part of the main cast.

Netflix has announced that all episodes of Dead to Me season 3 will be released on November 17, with the first two seasons available to stream now.
