Netflix has recently revealed a list of their most popular original films.
Bloomberg had the pleasure of releasing this exclusive list, which includes the recently debuted action film Extraction starring Chris Hemsworth, the viral Bird Box starring Sandra Bollock and the critically acclaimed Martin Scorsese Oscar contender The Irishman.
The newest addition to the list is the adaptation of comic book The Old Guard. Released on 10 July, an extraordinary 72 million accounts watched Charlize Theron in this fantasy thriller. Its addition led to Chris Nelson’s The Perfect Date losing out on a top ten placing.
Netflix lifting the curtain on their original films is an extraordinary insight into the success of the platform, as they look to expand beyond just a simple streaming service, in particular as they have stiff competition with Disney Plus and Amazon Prime. However, despite releasing information on their most successful films, they have failed to release information on all of their original pieces. This therefore means there is an extreme lack of data on films outside the list, meaning we cannot see if an original film flops.
Netflix has made significant changes to their website recently, as they have introduced a weekly top ten films carousel which regularly features Netflix originals and popular films which the platform has recently debuted.
