Netflix has officially announced that their hit Addams Family spin-off will be continuing, as the streaming service confirmed via Twitter that the next series of Wednesday will be going ahead.

The streaming giant has officially confirmed that series two of Wednesday will be moving forward, thrilling fans of the Tim Burton-produced show. Wednesday follows Wednesday Addams, the daughter of the Addams Family, as she begins her studies at a boarding school for outcasts: Nevermore Academy. After multiple strange and concerning happenings, Wednesday uses her newfound psychic ability to solve the mysteries that have been sweeping the academy and the nearby town.

With four of the show’s eight episodes directed by Tim Burton, it is no surprise that viewers were eager to binge-watch Wednesday. Led by young scream-queen Jenna Ortega (known for XScream, and You), the well-loved reboot was an instant hit for Netflix, with series one garnering over 411 million hours viewed in its debut week, smashing Stranger Things’ previous record of 314.2 million hours. Speaking with Tudum, Netflix’s official behind-the-scenes site, co-showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough discussed the audience that Wednesday has reached, stating: “It’s been incredible to create a show that’s connected with people across the world, we’re thrilled to continue Wednesday’s torturous journey into season two.”

The streaming service released a new teaser trailer for series two of Wednesday to Wednesday Adams’ own Twitter account, referencing the show’s TikTok virality. Wednesday reads: “Over the past few weeks I’ve been hunted, haunted, and mimicked millions of times across the internet. It’s been pure torture. Thank You”.

Perhaps this self-aware kookiness is what draws in the masses, breaks Netflix’s own records and spawns a newly-beloved spinoff series. Millar and Gough went on to express their shared joy over renewing the reboot, stating: “We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore”.

Fans of the show can look forward to another series of spooks, laughs, and nostalgic Addams Family creepiness. Until then, season one of Wednesday is available to stream on Netflix.
