Netflix renewed Outer Banks for a fourth season, five days ahead of the third season’s release. Cast members Chase Stokes (John B.), Madelyn Cline (Sarah), Madison Bailey (Kiara), Jonathan Daviss (Pope), Carlacia Grant (Cleo), Rudy Pankow (JJ), Austin North (Topper), and Drew Starkey (Rafe) made the announcement live from the stage at Poguelandia, an immersive fan experience held in Huntington Beach, California. The announcement was followed by a nine-minute preview of season three’s first episode. As well as live performances from alt-J, Elley Duhé, Khalid, Lil Baby, Surf Mesa and The Nude Party, and a surf shop sponsored by American Eagle.

Primarily filmed in Charleston, South Carolina, Outer Banks follows a group of teenagers called the Pogues who live on the real-life Outer Banks in North Carolina and embark on an action-packed adventure to find a local treasure. The first season debuted in April 2020 and the second season in July 2021. Outer Banks made the top ten list in 74 countries and became the number one English-language television series globally on Netflix after the release of the second season. Its stars have gone on to gain roles in other high-profile projects, such as Do Revenge (Daviss), Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (Cline), and Uncharted (Pankow). So, this season is set to continue its success.

In a joint statement, executive producers and show runners (Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke) said, “Seeing Poguelandia come to life was nothing short of spectacular. The Pogues are enjoying an adventure of a lifetime, and we now get to map out more twists and turns as the joyride continues into season four of Outer Banks.”

Although the expected filming schedule and release date has yet to be confirmed, if season four follows the examples of the previous seasons, it is expected to come out sometime next year.

The third season of Outer Banks is out now, exclusively on Netflix.
