The fight between Ben and Paxton for Devi’s heart is still not over in Never Have I Ever’s fourth and final season. Netflix released the official trailer for the hit teen comedy on May 9th. The season looks to be full of the normal chaos and drama which Devi finds herself in, with the promise of “a banging ending”.
Never Have I Ever follows Indian-American teenager, Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), as she deals with the loss of her father, navigating friendships, and falling in love. Season three saw Devi and Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnett) finally date, but break up mid-way through the season. Paxton left for Arizona State University, seemingly exiting the show. Devi also appears to finally lose her virginity to Ben (Jaren Lewison), showing up at his room with the ‘One Free Boink’ pass he gave her earlier in the season.
The trailer addresses these plot points immediately, with the first scene showing Ben and Devi in bed, together, and Devi stating “Well, we did it. We had sex.” However, it doesn’t appear to be smooth sailing for the pair, as Devi soon sees Ben kissing Margot (Victoria Morales), whom he briefly flirted with in season three. Paxton also makes a surprise reappearance, possibly becoming a teacher at Sherman Oaks. It looks like Devi could be in for a love square this season, with the trailer showing her becoming close to newcomer Ethan (Michael Cimino). Undoubtedly, Devi will have to weather a few love-related disasters throughout the season.
Aside from romance, the series has focused heavily on Devi dealing with her grief over the loss of her father, and becoming closer to her mother, Nalini (Poorna Jagannathan) and cousin, Kamala (Richa Moorjani). A major focus of the trailer is Devi’s application to Princeton University. Devi appears to have doubts about her capability and is worried about leaving everything behind. The trailer suggests that Devi’s path to graduation will not be easy, but Devi’s best friends, Eleanor (Ramona Young) and Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez) will be with her every step of the way.
Showrunner Lang Fisher said, “I think season four is about growing up and moving on. For these characters, it’s their senior year. Who do they want to be in the world? And I think it’s like them being slightly more grown-up versions of themselves and having this kind of big, epic senior year.”
The final season will be available for streaming from June 8th on Netflix.
