Netflix has released a teaser trailer for the hotly anticipated third season of Bridgerton.

Everybody’s favourite regency romance returns to our screens in less than two months, with the spotlight turning to the third Bridgerton brother’s love life. Season three will focus on the friends-to-lovers arc between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).

The end of season two left their once-solid friendship on shaky ground, after Penelope overheard Colin deny ever wanting to court her to a group of friends. The upcoming season is sure to be an emotionally demanding one for Penelope, as she navigates her changing relationship with Colin. Additionally, her explosive argument with her best friend Eloise, who discovered Penelope was Lady Whistledown, will leave Penelope lacking some much needed emotional support.

The newest teaser shows season two’s pairing, Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) and Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), in wedded bliss, sharing a dance at a ball away from the drama that is sure to envelope the rest of the characters. We also get a glimpse of an older Francesca (Hannah Dodd), who is likely to make her debut in the ton this season. The trailer suggests Francesca will struggle with her new role, as she asks Anthony for some time alone to collect her thoughts.

This season is likely to set up multiple future stories, given that both Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Benedict (Luke Thompson) meet their respective love interests in the fourth book, Romancing Mr Bridgerton. Benedict meets his eventual wife, Sophie, at a ball hosted by Colin and Penelope, and Eloise begins corresponding with her own romantic partner throughout the novel. With Benedict’s love story expected to take centre stage next season, this season is sure to lay the groundwork for his own romance.

The first half of the third season of Bridgerton is set to premiere on 16 May, with the second half promptly following on 13 June.
