Netflix has released a teaser trailer for the next season of the crime thriller, You. The hugely popular show, which is now on its fourth season, is based on the novel of the same name by American author, Caroline Kepnes.
Season one premiered on Lifetime in 2018 before quickly being picked up by Netflix due to its increasing popularity. The show has followed psychopathic protagonist Joe Goldberg, played by Penn Badgley, and his efforts to date the girl of his dreams, with him stopping at nothing (no, not even murder) to get there.
Elizabeth Lail starred alongside Badgley in the show’s first season to play Joe’s ‘love interest’, Beck, who was a victim of his stalking, and eventually his murderous ways. The following seasons saw his next obsession, Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), become Joe’s perfect partner in crime as she teamed up with him to make a dangerous and deadly duo. Season three ended with Love’s inevitable death and a move to Paris for the serial killer.
The new trailer, however, sees Joe go in an unexpected direction, going by the name of Professor Jonathan Moore and moving to London—narrating how the move has allowed him to “bury the past”. Also in the trailer is Marienne (Tati Gabrielle), who Joe had a fling with in the third season, and who he seemingly left California to stalk.
We’re also met with some familiar faces, as Amy Leigh Hickman from the likes of The Dumping Ground and Ackley Bridge joins the cast to play Nadia, a literature student. We can only assume she’ll be getting to know her new professor rather well, as she is one of the first new characters introduced in the teaser. Ghosts alumni, Charlotte Ritchie will also be joining the series as Kate.
It’s been speculated that this could well be the last season of You, as fans believe Joe can’t keep getting away with his crazed antics—with his kill count getting higher and higher. While the trailer didn’t give too much of the season’s storyline away, we can certainly expect more murder, more violence, and if we’re lucky, maybe even Joe’s arrest!
The trailer also revealed season four’s release date and told how it will be coming out in two parts. The first part will be released on February 10th, and the second part will follow on March 10th.
Seasons 1-3 of You are currently streaming on Netflix.
