After a first-look at Vikings: Vahalla season two in September, we finally have a trailer to give a larger picture of where these Vikings are going, and in particular, where.
A spin-off of the widely renowned Vikings, Vikings: Vahalla is set about 100 years after Bjorn led the Great Viking army to England to avenge Ragnar (which occurred in its predecessor). With this time jump, a whole new cast is required to usher in the new era for the Vikings series. Filling the shoes of Travis Fimmel, Alexander Ludwig, and Kathryn Winnick who led the original series comes Leo Suter as Harald Sigurdsson (known for British-based shows like Clique and Sanditon), Sam Corlett as Leif Erikson (known for the last season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Freda Gustavsson as Freydis Eriksdotter, and Bradley Freegard as King Canute—to name a few.
The season two trailer introduces new characters like Harekr, played by Bradley James (known for BBC’s Merlin), which will ensure new dynamics to captivate audiences. A scene between Harekr and Freydis is one of many where the original cast seem worlds apart from each other. Seeing Harald Sigurdsson aiming for the throne of Norway, Freydis engaging with religion, fighting rings, visits to Constaniople, and even an intense scene of the danger to come—Leif and Harald on a boat heading for a waterfall; Vikings: Valhalla is sure to exhilarate.
Vikings came to an end in 2020, with no less violence, action, and historicity than the beginning. Although lesser known for its family, friendship, and romantic themes, Vikings: Vahalla is keen to play on those individual stories and subplots, as well as continuing the gore and action that brought those viewers of the History channel back to Vikings season after season. Season two promises distinct journeys for its characters whilst leaning into what made Vikings so popular—the complex character dynamics, the action, and the warring landscape.
Capitalised in the words of Olaf Haraldson (Jόhannes Haukur Jόhannesson) in the trailer, “Do what Vikings have always done. Reinvent themselves,” Vikings: Valhalla is sure to surprise and continue on the legacy that started in 2013 with the first season of its predecessor.
The first season was released in February 2022 and fans can expect the second season even closer. Vikings: Vahalla will return to Netflix for season two on January 12th.
